The chairperson of the Ga Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) Rev. Dr. Nii Noi Odonkor has appealed to Christians to pray for unity and stability of Ghana.

Preaching the sermon themed: MAINTAIN THE UNITY OF THE BODY to induct 13 presbyters of the PCG, Faith Congregation at the Madina Estate, Accra, Rev. Dr. Odonkor deplored heinous crimes and abominable sins that had brought untold hardship and insecurity to the country. He therefore urged Christians to pray unceasingly for God's mercy, forgiveness and protection.

Rev. Dr. Odonkor said where Satan ruled the world the only weapon to disarm him was fervent prayer. He said prayer was the only weapon to destabilize the snares of the evil one. 'Never forget to pray always. Pray for yourself, leaders of the church, community, family, friends, the nation and even your enemies. The Lord listens to prayers and He will not leave you alone.'

He stated that no country would be able to progress without prayer. He urged Christians to unite to be able to triumph over their tribulations, trials and temptations. Rev. Dr. Odonkor said unity did not mean uniformity, adding that we must unite to advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Rev. Dr. Odonkor regretted that owing to corruption, immorality and dishonesty it had become difficult for Christians to be identified in the society. 'But stand up in the name of Jesus and be counted. Do not yoke with evil doers. Live righteous life and win souls for Jesus Christ who sacrificed His life for you.'

He said there might be doctrinal, ethnic and tribal differences but these should not divide us as Christians. 'We must maintain the unity in our church, family, homes, offices so that the peace of God will be on us.' He called for unity, empowerment of the Holy Spirit, sanctification and protection from God to lead us in all our endeavours. I pray that all of you will be one according to Jesus Christ prayer to His disciples. (John 17:21)

The chairperson reminded the newly elected presbyters to endeavour to serve rather than to be served. 'Remember you are servants and do not lord over the people.' He exhorted them to seek God's direction in all their undertaking.

The resident minister of Faith Congregation, Rev. Mark Boye who inducted the presbyters urged them to strive to deepen the spiritual anchorage of the congregants through prayer and meditation.

'As presbyters you have a herculean task of visiting the sick, comforting the poor, the needy and the lonely. You must bring backsliders and non believers to the church and maintain peace and discipline.'

The presbyters are: Mary Ofori-Offei, Lena Ayebea Nyinaku, Gloria Adzamli, Beatrice Otoo, Francis Akwasi-Kuma, Samuel Ofori-Offei, Sampson Amoako and Charles Okutu.

The rest are Jonathan Odoi, FMK Ashie, Ishmael Aryee, E.O. Okomeng and Ransford Koranteng.
