The Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, Francis Amenu is asking Ghanaians to stop chasing miracles and focus on the teachings of Christ.
His advice comes in the wake of yesterday's loss of four lives at the Spintex branch of Prophet T.B. Joshua's Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) in a stampede.
The four reportedly died during a struggle for holy water purportedly blessed by T.B. Joshua.
Thirty others were said to have been severely injured in the stampede.
According to the Christian Council Chairman, it is rather unfortunate that people in recent times follow the creatures of the creator and not the creator.
“It is very important that we pay heed to the teachings of our dear Lord and Saviour Jesus the Christ. Anything that we do must be clearly examined against the time-tested teachings of the word of God.”
Meanwhile, some victims of yesterday's stampede who are currently on admission at the Police Hospital in Accra spoke about their experiences to Joy News.
“The people were plenty so they were shouting open the gate, open gate; my daughter was at the front so I wanted to follow her but before I knew, we fell down and people walked on us,” one of the victims said, adding that she still experiences body pains.
Interestingly, an official of the Synagogue of All Nations Church, Rev Sam Mc-Caanan has denied the church was distributing holy water.
“There was not even an idea as to whether it was going to come and when is it is going to come on…everything happened based on speculative reasons.”
He said worshippers anticipated that since free holy water was distributed last week in Lagos, Nigeria, same would happen in Ghana.
Meanwhile, the President of the Concerned Clergy has called on the Inspector General of Police to order an immediate investigation into the events that led to the death of the four persons at the church yesterday.
Reverend Prince Benny-Woode says the brains behind what he describes as deceptive marketing must be identified and dealt with by the police.
