Multinational telecommunications giant, Multi Telecommunications Network (MTN), last Thursday cut the sod for the commencement of an ultra modern boys' dormitory for the Owerriman Senior/Technical School at Domeabra in the Asante Akyem North Municipality in the Ashanti Region.
MTN Ghana Foundation is investing an estimated amount of GH¢399,510 on the dormitory project, with the hope of easing congestion in the existing infrastructure, as MTN's contribution towards achieving the millennium development goals.
Mr. James Bukari Basintale, General Manager (Northern Sector), noted that the provision of accommodation for students at Owerriman Senior/Technical School was essential, because it would create an enabling environment for learning.
'Boarding facility affords students from diverse backgrounds to learn to cohabitate and help truant students to change their habits for the better,' he stated.
He indicated that since 2007, the Foundation had invested over GH¢11,000,000 in educational and health projects, some of which include 22 ICT centers, construction of six-unit classroom blocks with an office and store for the Juaso Nkyesa School, and the refurbishment of a library for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Mr. Basintale said MTN was this year investing $105 million in network infrastructure in its bid to provide improved services to customers.
He stated that the Ashanti Region would see much of the network infrastructure service, which aims at expanding and upgrading its services.
He appealed to nananom to join the crusade against the menace of fiber cuts, to ensure enhanced and quality service in the area.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr. K. Konadu Yiadom, said the construction of the dormitory was handy, because the school has had to convert two classrooms into a dormitory for the boys. He called for further support by MTN to roof the school library.
Nana Frimpong Afoakwa, Omanhene of Domeabra, expressed appreciation for the gesture by MTN, and hoped the relationship between MTN and Owerriman would be sustained into the future.
