Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF), which is Newmont Ghana's Ahafo Mine main driver of sustainable developments in its host communities within the five years of its existence, has spent approximately US$12 million on the execution of various development projects, particularly infrastructural and non-infrastructural, in its host communities.

Also, US$1.2 million, which is 10 per cent of the contribution, has been invested into an endowment fund for the communities, as seed fund after the life of the mine.

The NADeF, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary under the theme, 'NADeF - Five Years of Creating Sustainable Futures through Partnerships', disclosed in a statement.

The Executive Secretary of NADeF, Joseph Danso, who issued the statement, noted: 'From May 19 to June 16, a series of activities have been planned to commemorate the 5 th Anniversary celebration.'

Among them are the signing of the Revised Foundation Agreement, the NADeF Anniversary Lecture, a grand durbar, health screening, clean-up exercises, and football gala among the 10 host communities it noted.

According to the statement, to date, NADeF had completed and handed over about 40 infrastructural projects, including community libraries, teachers' quarters, ICT centres, clinic, schools, and water system facilities across the 10 host communities of the Ahafo Mine.

It added that the Foundation had awarded scholarships worth GH¢3.6 million to 3,700 students from the communities, who were pursuing various programs in second cycle and tertiary institutions.
