The Ashanti regional police command has arrested one person in connection with the shooting incident which occurred in the early hours of Monday.
According to a cook at the hotel, several expatriates had visited the area at the weekend, and thus believed the robbers had besieged the hotel to rob them.
Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Tanko in an interview with Citi News said the suspect was arrested in the early hours of Monday.
Several rounds of live cartridges were found on him after a thorough search.
It is reported that because the suspect was pursued for a long time before he was arrested, he may have managed to throw the weapon somewhere.
Police are searching the area to find the weapon and add it to the evidence they are gathering. The shooting incident is believed to have happened between 1am and 2 am Monday.
The victim has been identified as 35 year-old Joe Ayisi and an employee of WESTEC security.
He was shot in the chest and hacked with machetes after he attempted to foil a robbery attack, reports say.
