Residents of Tamale woke up on Saturday to witness posters of Alan Kyerematen on some walls with the inscription "Alan for President 2016."
The posters popped up on the walls around the Northern Regional House of Chiefs. No person or group has however, claimed responsibility for the posters.
The New Patriotic Party has also denied any knowledge of the posters.
The Northern Regional Secretary of the party, Dr. Clifford Braimah has attributed the emergence of the posters to "our faceless detractors who are bent on sowing seeds of discontent in our rank and file."
At the time of filing the report, all the posters had been removed from the walls as ordered by the regional executive of the party.. Dr Braimah described the act as criminal and called on the people to report those behind it to the police.
According to him, he saw the posters himself yesterday morning.
He said his attention was drawn to the posters by some party faithful but when former campaign officers of Alan were contacted they all denied knowledge of the posters.
The regional secretary, therefore, attributed the posting of the posters to "the work of our opponents who think that is the only way to cause disaffection in our dear party."
"We advise all our teeming supporters to ignore the posters or any such machinations that can only emanate from our opponents," he added.
He further indicated that the party also deliberated on the incident at a meeting in Tamale later yesterday where some national executive members of the NPP were present.
Dr. Braimah stressed that the party would not be detracted by some machinations , "for now our attention is focused on the proceedings at the Supreme Court where we are contesting the 2012 presidential election outcome.
Mr Kyerematen, who was a former Minister of State in the Kufuor administration, contested against the presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, for the party's presidential slot in 2010 but lost.
Since then there have been reports of Mr. Kyerematen's alleged intentions to put himself up again as the party's presidential candidate for the party's presidential primary, an allegation people close to him have denied.
