League Report Kotoko to boycott Presidents Cup and Top 4: Management
MON, 20 MAY 2013

A member of the Communications team of reigning Premier League champions Asante Kotoko, Nana Kwame Dankwa has confirmed that the club will not take part in this year's Presidents's Cup.

Dankwa told footy-ghana.com that the decision not to take part stems from what he described as being on the receiving end of unfair treatment from the Ghana Football Association, with regards to amongst other things, officiating and the decision to temporarily close down the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to the club.

“We have not been treated fairly by the GFA with regards to officiating for example. The referees for the games against Medeama and Aduana Stars did not do well at all and it affects us. Secondly, the decision to temporarily ban us from using the Baba Yara Sports Stadium was not a good one and we are tired of being manipulated.”

Dankwa also told footy-ghana.com that the Ghana League Clubs Association, which is supposed to be a welfare body for the clubs does not look after Asante Kotoko's interests and yet expects the club to take part in its competitions so that it can make money.

“Our interests are not being looked after by GHALCA and yet they expect us to take part in such competitions because they know that if we do, they will make money based on our large following. So we will not take part.”

Dankwa, who is also a member of the President's Cup organizing Committee of GHALCA, revealed that he will reveal the club's decision when the Committee meets later this morning, adding that had the annual GHALCA top four tournament not been mandatory, Asante Kotoko will still pulled out of that competition as well.

“I am a member of the organizing committee and we are meeting this morning. I will inform them about our decision as a club. Indeed, had the GHALCA Top 4 not been mandatory, we will stil pulled out of that as well, but we will probably take part with a second string team.”
