Delta Leaders on Sunday accused some politicians of feeding the public with cooked and calculated lies about elections in the state, declaring the past three governorship elections as the most transparent ever seen in the history of the state.
In a statement issued in Abuja by the Director of Communications of the People's Movement, Mrs. Ibufuro Tatua, the leaders dismissed the view of Democratic People's Party (DPP) governorship candidate, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru on the 2011 governorship election.
'Elections are not won on the pages of newspapers or through noise making. Those banking their hopes on the apex court to occupy the Asaba Government House should stop deceiving themselves' the leaders said.
They urged the justices of the Supreme Court to take appropriate measures that will satisfy the electorate and the society at large by dismissing Great Ogboru's case.
The leaders appealed to office and money seeking politicians to temper ambition and greed with concern for public good and genuine welfare of the people.
They also rebutted allegation that the governor received N5 million from a transition committee chairman for his 25th wedding anniversary in Warri, describing it as wicked, baseless and reckless.
'His Excellency is an honest and highly effective governor. He has built a reputation anchored on integrity over the years' they said.
They praised the governor for the pragmatic steps taken to address the problems in the various sectors, the development of democratic culture and stable polity as well as the creation of jobs for the people.
Similarly, they thanked the governor for giving beneficial leadership in the state and rekindling the specific interest of the business community in Nigeria and the general interest of the international community in the development of the state.
'Governor Uduaghan deserves the biggest thanks for being a team player and for ensuring speedy development of the state' they said.
They also described the People's Democratic Party (PDP) led government in the state as compact in size, moderate in profile, focused in vision, efficient in delivery and transparent in official conduct.
The leaders, who further thanked the people for the confidence reposed on Uduaghan, accused some members of the opposition of putting personal interest above those of the people and the state.
'In any system, there are always destroyers. His Excellency should look away from these destroyers and get on with important matters of state, since they are arrogant and reckless politicians pursuing their selfish agenda'.
