Canadian Governor General to visit Ghana

Accra, May 9, GNA - The Governor General of Canada, Mr David Lloyd Johnston and his wife, Mrs Sharon Johnston will arrive in Ghana on May 13, for a four-day state visit.

The visit to Ghana will be the first leg of a three country African tour that will also see them visiting the Republic of Botswana and the Republic of South Africa.

A statement signed by Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu,  Deputy Minister for Information and Media Relations, copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the Governor General and his delegation will hold meetings with President John Dramani Mahama at the Flagstaff House and also visit the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

It said Mr Johnston will visit the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and co-host a business luncheon with Vice President, Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur.

The statement said the visit is expected to strengthen bilateral relations and deepen the commercial and educational ties between the two countries.

The Governor General is the federal representative of the Canadian monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, who on the advice of her Canadian Prime Minister, appoints the Governor General to carry out most of her constitutional and ceremonial duties.
