Mankranso (Ash), May 3, GNA - The Ahafo-Ano South District has been selected to benefit from the 'Badiliko Information Communication Technology (ICT)  Project', a global initiative launched by the British Council with support from the Microsoft Corporation.

Under the initiative, an ICT hub is being established at Mankranso for use by school children and teachers in the district.

Twenty new computers have already been made available and more than 200 classroom teachers have been assisted to upgrade their skills in Information Technology.

Mr Kwabena Bosomtwi, Project Officer of the British Council, speaking at the official launch, said Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Uganda and Tanzania, are the other beneficiary countries.

He said the goal of the initiative is to help build skills for the global economy through innovative teaching and learning.

Across Ghana, Mr Bosomtwi said, they had so far successfully established 20 of the hubs, powered by Microsoft windows multipoint server for internet accessibility.

Mr John Oscar Kintorh, the District Education Director, described the Project as a welcomed intervention and said it would significantly help to bridge the digital gap.

He said apart from the ICT training courses run for teachers by the Project, there is also a leadership skills training for heads of schools and office staff.
