Maternal Health Channel (MHC) GTV Thursday May 2 8pm TV3 Friday May 3 8:30pm. This week, MHC goes in search of quality healthcare in the deepest interior of rural Ghana. This is a 2 part programme that takes us to Bodada in the Jasikan district and Kute Buem on the Ghana – Togo border. In these areas, telecom signals barely work, and the broken dirt roads lead to more broken dirt roads. The roving film crew visited a health care centre in Bodada and discussed with staff how people in these villages access essential healthcare services. In Kute Buem, the only clinic for the town was closed in the afternoon and the roving film crew learnt that no deliveries were possible there. Pregnant mothers have to travel on the broken dirt roads for more than 2 hours to reach a hospital to give birth. At Kute Buem, an argument ensues because a patient is turned away, to go home and bring her hospital card.
The sensational 2 part programme takes the lid off Ghana's health sector and asks what can be done to improve health services for the majority of Ghanaians who live in rural areas.
