The over a thousand serving officers of the Ghana Armed Forces who are encountering accommodation challenges may soon heave a sigh of relief as many retired officers still occupying government bungalows are on their way out.

The retired officers had overstayed because government is yet to pay their gratuity packages.

The Minister of Defence, Mark Wayongo announced in Takoradi Tuesday that funds have been secured to pay them off.

The minister, according to Radio Maxx's Ebenezer Afanyi Dadzie, told a gathering of retired officers that government is now ready to pay them what is owed.

“...Within the next three, four weeks such officers should be able to go... and in the process there will be free accommodation for more than a thousand [officers].

He said some unfinished buildings constructed in 2007 will be completed by the end of year since funding has been secured for that purpose.

Once that is done, Mr Woyongo, more officers would be given free accommodation.
