Authorities at the Tamale Teaching Hospital have deployed doctors from the Cuban Health Brigade to deal with emergency cases following the declaration of an intensification of the strike by doctors.

According to Citi News' Northern Regional Correspondent, Mashoud Kombat, the Public Relations Officer of the Tamale Teaching hospital, Nii Otu, noted in an interview that tremendous pressure had been placed on the hospital as a result of the decision by the doctors.

Nii Otu also indicated that despite several appeals to some of the doctors to rescind their decision and attend to patients, no positive responses had emanated.

According to him, the hospital had four medical officers from Cuba and five medical assistants.

Nii Otu added that the health professionals had been deployed to contain the situation while the doctors remained on strike.

He called on government to act expeditiously in resolving the situation with the doctors because the residents could not afford to go to private hospitals.
