Accra, April 4, GNA - The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has called on Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to make quality and safety the hallmark of their operations.

He said OMCs needed a high degree of safety, health and environmental standards as they sought to provide services, which augment the government's moves to ensure that there was adequate fuel in the system for maximum productivity.

The Minister made the call when the Board of Governors of the Association of Oil Marketing Companies of Ghana (AOMCs) led by Chief Executive Officer and Industry Co-coordinator, Mr. Kwaku Agyeman-Duah, called on him at his office in Accra on Wednesday.

According to him, the government attached great importance to the petroleum downstream sector and expressed his appreciation to the OMCs for their hard work in ensuring that petroleum products were available on the Ghanaian market.

'Government recognizes the important role of the OMCs and will work to ensure that the current congenial atmosphere is improved for you to maximize your operational capabilities', he added.

He said the Ministry would work with policies that strengthened the private sector for a successful operation in the downstream sector and ensure that the interest of the people of Ghana was served.

Mr. Agyeman-Duah, on his part, said the OMCs were pleased to have the Minister take over the reins of the Ministry, having worked with him when he was Deputy Minister in charge of Petroleum.
