Some Policemen And Women Collecting GH₵ 1.00 Daily Susu On Our Roads—Part 1

Some Policemen And Women Collecting GH₵ 1.00 Daily Susu On Our Roads—Part 1

Let me first salute the police service for the good work they are doing in Ghana. Also all the security services in this country are doing their best in their various field as they have sworn the oath of allegiance to this nation. But the problem is some policemen/women are using the black black uniform to act as outlaws.

Don't get me out of context from what I am going to write, I have so many friends in the police service but none of my family member is a police man/woman. I asked myself “why is it that any member of the family (both extended and nuclear) hates to join the police service?”

But found no answer to it. Before I completed J.S.S. I asked one of my uncles that I want to join the police service after S.S.S., oh my God! He turned to me and shouted “do you want to die before your time? No way! No way! Better change your mind. As I grew up, I have come to understand why some policemen/women died before their time as my uncle said.

There is this extortion of Ghc 1 going on in this country that the nation seems to sit unconcern about it. I believe Ghanaians have been witnessing the way some policemen/women acrobatically and systematically removes the GHC 1 note from the drivers licence. Hmmmm 3y3 NsemPii.

This extortion of the Ghc 1 by some policemen/women from the trotro and taxi drivers is something I know is against the 1992 constitution of Ghana, so why is it that those who are supposed to enforce the law are instead breaking the law?.

I once travelled from kyebi to kade through Asamankese, and before we got to Bouadua (near Akwatia) the trotro driver has paid Ghc 6 to six different police check points on the road. So I asked the driver why he is paying all this money. And the answer he gave me is “I have to pay so that they won't delay me here “, I asked him “has your licence expired “, he answered “no and everything is intact but it's whatwe do always so that they won't delay us. Before I could ask the next question, I saw another check point and this was the most ever clever policewoman I have ever come across.

The way this police woman between the ages of 23-25 took the GHC 1 from the drivers licence made me to believe that some policemen/women are more than pick pockets.

I also witnessed an incident at AkyemApedwa where a motor rider accidentally knocked down a policeman to death for trying to stop more than two cars for his daily GHC1 susu. And unfortunately for the policeman, he met his untimely death because of the daily GHC 1 susu.

Please is the Ghc 1 daily susu also part of the governments method of generating funds for this nation? If yes, then when are they going to accounts for it? If no, then is it legal for policemen/women to extort Ghc 1 from drivers? I think the drivers must be provided with Ghana Police Service Daily SusuCard.
