Ejisu (Ash) March 6, GNA - The Ejisu M/A model Junior High School has won the 56th Independence Anniversary Inter-Schools Quiz Competition, the first of its kind to be held in the Municipality to commemorate the occasion.

The event was put together for selected schools in the Ejisu- Juaben Municipality by WAMB Educational Consult, an educational civil society organisation based in Kumasi with support from the Ghana Education Service (GES) amongst others.

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Kubi Foundation, the Juaben Rural Bank and the Jem F.M., a Kumasi based radio Station are the other sponsors.

The participants answered questions on issues bothering on pre-colonial, pre-and post-independence Ghana as well as the history of the area and the heroic deeds of the legendary Nana Yaa Asantewaa.       

The winning school garnered 73 points to beat the Juaben Presbyterian JHS which had 70 points with the Ejisu M/A experimental JHS taking the third position with 29 points whilst the Juaben Methodist followed with 17 points.

Other participating schools were; Ejisu Roman, Presbyterian, and the Juaben Islamic Junior High Schools.

The schools who took the first three positions took away prizes including trophies, certificates, medals, some educational materials, a constitutional game as well as abridged constitution.

Mr Williams Boakye-Baafi, Programmes Director for WAMB Educational Consult, explained that the quiz was aimed at improving the academic performance of pupils, especially in the area of social studies to keep them abreast with the history of the land.

Mr Kodjo Adjormadoh, Programmes officer of Ejisu Juaben Municipal National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), advised students to take keen interest in learning the history of the country since a country without a history has no future.

He entreated students in the country to take the study of social studies serious especially, the constitution.

Mr Michael Asare, Chief Executive Officer of WAMB Educational Consult, commended the participating schools for the high performance they exhibited during the period of the quiz.

He thanked the sponsors for showing concern for quality education and appealed to social studies teachers to develop a modern approach in teaching the subject to make it more interesting to students.
