The Ghana Police Service has denied allegations by a section of commercial sex workers in Accra that police officers abuse them.

The sex workers told XYZ News they are unable to report abuses they suffer in the hands of their clients because police officers are adamant in following up on those reports.

The women also allege that some of the police officers further abuse them and extort money from them.

One of the women alleged that “You will be standing by the road side and the police man will come and arrest you for being a prostitute around the road.

"Because you are afraid, the person might say that you have to pay some money, if the person sees that you are pretty, he would say instead of taking you to the police station to solve your problem, they will tell you to strip naked and they will just have an affair with you and they will just sack you”.

But the Director of Public Affairs at the Police Headquarters, DSP Cephas Arthur told XYZ News, such reports are not true.

He however said if any police officer is found to have engaged in such acts, they will be dealt with.

DSP Arthur also encouraged any member of the public to feel free to report abuses to the police for action.
