Tragedy MTTU Identifies Apam Junction As A Death Trap
MAR 4, 2013 LISTEN

The Cape Coast branch of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) has branded Apam junction, where 11 people lost their lives at the weekend, as "a death trap."

In an interview with Citi News, the Commander of the Cape Coast MTTU, Superintendent Paul Aduhene noted that the high number of recorded accidents on the stretch of road, to a large extent, could be attributed to negligent driving.

He noted that over 23 lives had been lost in less than two weeks on the road and indicated that the nature of the construction along the road could be a contributory factor.

"There are a series of curves on the road and drivers must be careful."

Superintendent Aduhene cautioned drivers to exercise extreme caution in order to help preserve life and property.

Eleven people lost their lives on Saturday when a Mercedes Benz Sprinter collided with a Hyundai bus at Apam/Winneba junction on the Accra-Cape Coast road.
