So on March 9th 2013, we Ghanaians residing in the Greater Toronto area will be celebrating the independence of our mother country Ghana. Post independence Ghana is 56 years, yet we as a people struggle with so many issues such as education, gender and sex discrimination, poverty , domestic abuse, corruption , just to name a few.

Most importantly our politicians do us no good with their political divisiveness, tactics and bullying in Ghana. Hence, that begs the question in our 56 years of independence from British colonial rule, what have we achieved as a nation and a people. To go into our nature as Ghanaian will be an essay I am not ready to write.

On the other hand, focusing on Ghanaians in Toronto Canada is a different issue. This independence provides us the opportunity as a community to come together, put our issues on the table and talk about it and formulate an action plan. As a people, we are complainers and not action takers. This behaviour has to change if we are to move ahead in this new country we have sojourned.

This year's independence celebration will be held in conjunction with the Ghana Consulate at the Apostle's Continuation Church on March 9th 2013. The event was put together by the Ghanaian Canadian Association of Ontario under the leadership of Wofa Yaw. Come let's find the way forward together.
