Kumasi, Feb 25, GNA - The Ashanti Regional branch of the Convention People's Party (CPP) has marked 47 years of the overthrow of the party's Founder and Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, with a call for the people to have self-belief and the 'can-do-it-spirit'.
It said the situation where the nation virtually imported everything including rice, tomatoes and onions must end.
The party also underlined the need for all to act together to fight head-on greed and corruption among politicians and public servants.
Mr A.S. Osei Yaw, the acting Regional Chairman, in a press statement, a copy of which was made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, denounced corrupt practices and insensitivity, resulting in the loss of huge sums of money to the nation.
It gave a bleak assessment of the nation's future, citing what it said were enormous problems in the health, education, agricultural and the trade and industry sectors.
The party said it was shameful that 56 years into nationhood, Ghana's lot had been that of erratic power, joblessness, high rate of illiteracy due to poverty, more people dying through accidents caused by bad roads.
The CPP again expressed worry about what it saw as cronyism, favouritism and sectional interest in the appointments and placements into high offices.
'Today's Ghana is polarized and split along tribal lines' something it warned was unhelpful for the nation's unity and stability.
