TCL Communication, designer and manufacturer of Alcatel One Touch smartphones is set to enter the smartphone market with the launch of a suite of 13 new phones at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013 , which opened in Barcelona, Spain today.

Chief Marketing Officer of Alcatel One Touch, Dan Dery was quoted in a statement as saying “the revolution in the smartphone market starts at MWC 2013 in Barcelona, where Alcatel One Touch will launch an easy-to-choose, easy-to-use suite of 13 smartphones.”

The suite Alcatel One Touch handsets to be launched comprise of Scribe HD, Scribe Easy, Idol, Idol Ultra, Star, Snap, T'Pop, M'Pop, S'Pop, X'Pop, and the Tribe.

“The mass launch of the One Touch range is part of the company's mission to bring the latest smartphones to a wider market with a bang,” Dery said.

He noted that the Alcatel One Touch suite offers something for everyone in a straight up manner, from phones chosen with less effort than a pair of jeans, through to high-quality phablets everyday families will be inspired to create on.

“We're delivering high-technology with a high street attitude,” Dery said. “Our accessible approach will redefine the smartphone category. The One Touch smartphones are making great quality smartphones accessible to everyday people. You shouldn't need a PhD in computer science to make a choice about your phone.”

He is confident that the new approach to introducing the One Touch range unto the global market, would deliver the company a notable rate of business growth in 2013, faster growth than the industry and many competitors, saying “2013 is shaping up to be Alcatel One Touch's year.”

Dery said: “We invested heavily in innovating our smartphone business in 2012 – innovating our product line, our business model and our proposition to deliver the best products for our consumers. The innovations team has delivered a suite of 13 phones that offer unprecedented high-quality, high-value features. Now, we are working with our ever-expanding circle of global partners to deliver these phones in an approachable format.”

Meanwhile Key Accounts Manager for Alcatel One Touch in Ghana, Robert Oduro told Adom Business the new handsets would be launched in Ghana next month, following the launch in Barcelona.

“The Idol Ultra is currently the slimmest phone in the world and it would lead the release in Ghana in March this year,” he said.

He however noted that already there are Alcatel One Touch handsets such as the 997, 995, 991, 918, the T-10 tablet, and Alcatel Routers on the Ghanaian market.

“We are already collaborating with Vodafone to offer free data on the 995 and 918 and we are working the other telcos to start offering various packages on some of our other devices,” he said.

He noted that as at last year, Alcatel had a negligible market share on the Ghanaians market, but over a period of one year its market share has grown tremendously.

Oduro assured Ghanaians of the reliability and durability of Alcatel phones, saying that “globally our handsets are known for long battery life and the return rate for any Alcatel handset is 1.5%, which is the lowest in the world.”
