The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the National Council of Zongo Chiefs (NCZC), Chief Imoro Baba-Issa, has said that the development of educational infrastructure in Zongo communities is very crucial to the improvement of people's living standard in those areas.
He said it would ensure that people living in the Zongos got the best education, adding that there was the need for all Zongo communities to collaborate and fight for a common goal.
Chief Baba-Issa siad these observations at a ceremony organised by the NCZC to interact with the newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) from Zongo and Muslim communities nationwide in Accra.
“One needs to acquire advanced education, be it academic degrees or other professional qualifications, to become very relevant in our national affairs.”
He advised the Zongo communities on the urgent need to unite and take initiatives to improve life in their communities, particularly in the areas of sanitation, in order for government to support their initiatives.
“We have to keep our environment clean and this should be a matter of concern and importance to all.”
Chief Baba-Issa also appealed to government institutions to work in collaboration with Zongo chiefs to address the challenges of youth unemployment in Zongo communities. “There is the need for us to start tackling this canker before it becomes a serious national pandemic.”
Chief Baba-Issa on behalf of the NCZC also congratulated the Zongo community on the level of discipline and tolerance exhibited before, during and after the 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections.
He called for active co-operation among Members of Parliament and chiefs for the smooth operation and understanding of activities in the Zongo communities.
“I hope we will work as MPs to help correct the misconception and negative image about Zongo communities.”
“It is our duty to help promote the Zongo communities in our own small way, as well as on bigger platforms such as the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana.”
Dr Mustafa Ahmed, MP for North-Ayawaso, on behalf of the MPs, thanked the chiefs for their support towards the development of Zongo communities.
He said the MPs would continue to support the efforts of the chiefs to achieve their goals and to improve the living standard of people in the communities.
