Former President John Agyekum Kufuor will be attending the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama at the Independence Square on Monday, 7th January following an invitation he had received from the state.

A statement signed by his Spokesperson, Mr. Frank Agyekum, said the former President would be at the ceremony in his capacity as a former President of the Republic of Ghana.

The statement said former President Kufuor's unique position was explained to and acknowledged by the joint National Council and National Executive Committee meeting of the New Patriotic Party in Accra on January 2.

“His presence at the inauguration will be without prejudice to his party, the New Patriotic Party's stance to boycott the ceremony, nor of his full support for the Party's petition at the Supreme Court impugning the declaration of the December 2012 elections as announced by the Electoral Commission,” the statement said.

The NPP's National Executive Committee and National Council yesterday announced it will boycott the inauguration ceremony for President Mahama because attending would be in conflict with its petition before the Supreme Court challenging the validity of the results of the presidential elections.
