By GNA

Koforidua, Oct. 31, GNA- A youth Development Non-Governmental Organisation, 4-H Ghana, with support from the Ghana AIDS Commission, has organised a training workshop for in-school peer educators on the dangers of the HIV/AIDS at Koforidua.

Mr Appiah Kwaku Boateng, Executive Director of the 4-H Ghana, the workshop also aims at empowering the youth from the HIV/AIDS. He said under the project, 800 peer educators would be trained while some others would be assisted to undergo free Voluntary Counselling and Testing to know their HIV status so as to adopt positive behavioural change towards the future.

"We are also integrating the 4-H ideals with the HIV/AIDS activities, which involves each Peer Educator with the help of the parents or teachers to select a project, completes it and win an award", he said.

He expressed the hope that volunteer teachers would play a significant role to help reduce the current prevalence rate of 8.5 percent of the disease in the municipality.
