Season’s Greetings

Seasons Greetings
21.12.2012 LISTEN

Accra - On December 20th, the Marine Corps welcomed Ghanaian orphans and needy children from St. Peter and Paul Needy Children's Home and the Legion of Mary to the embassy and distributed toys donated from the Embassy community. For many of the participating children, it was their first time interacting with Santa Claus, who gave them a gift and took photos with them.

Toys for tots began in 1947, when Colonel Bill Hendricks and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. Since beginning the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program in 1947, Marines have distributed more than 452 million toys to more than 209 million needy children. The primary goal of Toys for Tots program by the Marines is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible and productive citizens.

As we part-take in this spirit of the season, the U.S. Embassy Ghana wishes all those celebrating Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa, Maulid, or the joy of uniting with family a bright holiday season and a healthy, prosperous and Happy New Year.

Afehyia Pa!
