THE ILLEGITIMATE PRESIDENCY OF JOHN MAHAMA WILL HURT OUR DEMOCRACY

THE ILLEGITIMATE PRESIDENCY OF JOHN MAHAMA WILL HURT OUR DEMOCRACY
12.12.2012 LISTEN

When the dust is settled on the 2012 presidential polls, we would come to terms with who actualy won the presidential polls for 2012.If it becomes convincingly evident that the EC stole the elections for John Mahama as it is being alleged by the NPP, then, whether the courts annuls the elections or not, the presidency of JDM would be considered illegitimate and would not be supported by the peoples mandate.

We are all patiently waiting for the NPP to prove their case in court and if they do, they would convince all Ghanaians including die-hard NDC supporters that their ruling government stole the elections.

It is very unfortunate that people who should be calling for justice to be done in this year's elections are instead calling for peace and restraint. How can there be peace without justice? why should any sensible person advocate for justice to be sacrificed on the alter of peace? the late Perter Tosh once said " I don't want no peace, I mind equal rights and justice"

where there is equal rights and justice, peace is the necessary outcome, so instead of crying out for peace to prevail in Ghana I would rather wish that people ask for justice to be done in the election process. If indeed the people spoke infavor of Nana Addo and Afari Gyan changed the people's wish for Mahama, that in itself cast doubt on our elections and will eventually discourage people from voting in the future, a situation that will ultimately cast a slur on democracy in Ghana.

I, therefore, urge the country to respect the true voice of the people by honoring the person in whom the people truly vested their mandate. If John Mahama truly won, let him enjoy the newly vested power, but if the figures were indeed massaged to grant him the victory by Afari Gyan and his cohorts, then, let the supreme court overturns the results and put things right in the interest of Ghana and democracy. we are all putting our fingers crossed for the outcome of the NPP's court case against Afari Gyan and until the verdit from the court is given, let everyone holds his/her peace.
