Zoomlion Cleanses Bantama, Kejetia, Asuoyeboah

The Sanitation Task force of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, in collaboration with Zoom Alliance, has organised its weekly massive cleanup exercise to clear refuse at Bantama, Kejetia and Asuoyeboah, all in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The exercise formed part of the national sanitation exercise and promotion of health among Ghanaians, launched by the President, John Mahama, and aimed at promoting sound environments in the country.

The members cleared weeds, chocked gutters and refuse to allow the free flow of waste water in the communities.

Speaking to newsmen after the exercise, the Chief Executive of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Mr. Samuel Sarpong, was worried about the indiscriminate disposal of refuse at the markets, lorry stations and on the roads, which practice, he noted, undermined the refuse laws of the country.

He said the Assembly would continue to intensify the enforcement of its sanitation laws to bring sanity in refuse disposal.

Mr. Sarpong pointed out that the Assembly would continue to remove traders from the streets, which is a source of inconvenience to other road users, and stop the indiscrimination of refuse disposal on our roads.

He commended the efforts and hard work of Zoomlion Ghana Limited and its development partners for the promotion of clean environments and health in the country, and stressed the Assembly's commitment and readiness to offer the needed support and power to ensure effective service to the people of Kumasi.

Mr. Stephen Gyekye-Darko, Ashanti Regional Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, said the exercise formed part of the commitment of the company to ensure clean environments and the promotion of good health for the people in the country.

He said the company was well-equipped with material, logistics, equipment and human resource to offer quality service and proper refuse management in the city.

He commended the KMA Chief Executive for his commitment and efforts to ensure the successful operation of the company, and assured the Assembly of the company's readiness to deliver quality service in the region.

He said the company would continue to organise the exercise in other communities in Kumasi and the other district capitals to ensure clean environments to prevent an outbreak of diseases in the region.
