Two persons lost their lives in a fatal accident that occurred at dawn in Tamale last Saturday. The deceased who were both riding motorbikes crashed into each other near a spot at Gariba Lodge on the Tamale-Bolgatanga road.

One of the victims, a 29-year old carpenter, Abdul Ganiyu Mohammed died on the spot while the other, whose name was given as Baba, died later at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. They have since been buried.

According to Fuseini Mohammed, a senior brother of Abdul-Ganiyu, the incident occurred at about 3am when the two riders who were coming from different directions collided at the junction.

In a related development, the Northern Regional executive of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described as inaccurate, the information by a section of the media that one of its supporters was involved in a fatal motor accident in Tamale during the arrival of its presidential candidate, Nana Akufo Addo to the metropolis on Saturday.

The Northern Region communications director of the NPP, Mr. Abudu Abdul-Ganiyu told graphic.com.gh that, it was also not factual that several of the NPP enthusiastic supporters who came out in their numbers to welcome Nana Addo also sustained injuries in any accident.

“Frankly speaking, we did not record any casualty on Saturday. My understanding is that, there was an accident that occurred earlier on in the day even before the arrival of our presidential; candidate,” he said.

The director said, inversely, all the events that marked the arrival of Nana Addo to the metropolis were without any hitches.

Nana Akufo Addo is in Tamale, as part of his preparations for the Institute of Economic Affairs's (IEA) maiden Presidential debate for Elections 2012, slated for the metropolis.
