Tema, Sept. 20, GNA - The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), on Thursday commissioned a refurbished Meat Shop worth GH¢ 50,000, at the Tema Community One Market.

The Meat Shop, which was built when the Community One Market was constructed under Dr Kwame Nkrumah's Regime, has not seen any rehabilitation over the years.

The shop has now been provided with ceiling fans, tiled stores, and a counter for the display and sale of the meat.

Commissioning the project, Mr Kempes Ofosuware, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, said the Butchers' Association of the Market contacted him in June 2009, and complained about the unhygienic environment they were operating in.

Mr Ofosuware said, as a result, the assembly was tasked to assess the situation, after which work commenced on the refurbishment six months ago.

He said it was gratifying that with the commissioning of the meat shop, residents could now purchase good quality meat from the market under proper hygienic conditions.

He said the refurbishment was in line with the government's Better Ghana Agenda.

Mr Issah Alhassan, Secretary of the Butchers' Association, thanked the TMA and gave the assurance that the facility would be well catered for.
