Chinese Throws 2 Ghanaians Into High Seas

The Captain of a Chinese vessel has been arrested by the police in Takoradi for throwing two Ghanaian sailors into the high seas. The sailors, Stephen Aidoo and David Abeka, employees on the fishing vessel “Maame Adedzewa” were accused by the captain, Han Wea Zbi of stealing shrimps. After physically assaulting them, Wea threw them into the high sea separately. Fortunately for them, there were spotted on the high seas by a canoe fisherman who rescued and brought them ashore. A report was then made to the police. Wea is currently on Police enquiry bail while investigations continue into the case. A source told the ‘Ghanaian Times’ that the two sailors were employees of Maes Fisheries Company, operators of the vessel and embarked on a fishing expedition on August 31, with the Captain and 10 other crew members. At about 7.30 am, when they were returning from the high seas, the Captain gave Aidoo some shrimps to keep in the engine room. Aidoo attempted to take advantage of the situation and keep some for himself but was caught in the act by the Captain, who angered by the action, attacked him and threw him into the sea. The Chinese, not satisfied, accused Abeka of aiding Aidoo to steal the shrimps and therefore subjected him to several kicks and slaps. He later threw Abeka into the sea and the vessel sailed away leaving them to their fate. The two sailors struggled to swim and stay alive for sometime and just when they had given up hope, a canoe sailed in their direction and rescued them.
