Northern Police Command intercepts 3,400 slabs of suspected Indian Hemp

Tamale, Sept. 15, GNA - The Northern Regional Police Command has intercepted a cargo truck with registration number AS 7414 P loaded with bags of cemented and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The police intercepted the truck with 3400 compressed slabs, stuffed in fertilizer bags in the vehicle between Tinga and Banda Nkwanta road in the Northern Region.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) George Tuffour, Northern Regional Police Commander, told journalists at Tamale that on 12th September, 2012, at about 2330 hours, the 36-year-old driver of the vehicle, Mr Abu Sumaila, and Mr Kwabena Boataleba, 45, were stopped for routine search.

He said the police found the dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp in the vehicle and arrested the suspects.

“During interrogation, the suspects mentioned one Ibrahim Adam, age 44, a native of Techiman, as the owner of the goods. The suspect called Adams and informed him of the arrest”, DCOP Tuffour explained.

The Police Commander said Adams came to the location and confirmed ownership of the goods and wanted to bribe the police with CFA 1,400 and GH¢ 430.00, which was turned down.
