Bolga flood victims yet to recieve relief items

Food and other relief items are yet to arrive in Bolgatanga hours after torrential rains washed away houses, killing one and displacing over a thousand people.

Upper East Regional Minister Mark Woyongo told Joy News it could take at least two days for the items to get to the affected people.

According to him, the relief items are in Accra and would have to be transported to the Upper East Region which has been affected by the floods.

He said people need food, blankets, and mattresses to ameliorate the effects the floods is having on the people.

The Minister also blamed the poor quality of houses for the deleterious effects of the floods on the people.

Woyongo said the poor structures, immediately give way when it rains and urged the architectural designers to help in putting up durable structures in the north.

According to him, roads and bridges in the area have been affected, but his outfit is still compiling data to ascertain the extent of damage in the area.

He regretted what he described as the perennial flood disaster in the region.
