Kumasi, Aug 31, GNA – The leadership of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Friday joined Muslims at the Kumasi Central Mosque to pray and thank God for his guidance and protection during the party's Special National Delegates' Congress held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday.

The delegation was led by Alhaji Hudu Yahaya, a leading member of the party.

The well-attended ceremony saw the congregation pray for the nation's progress and the leaders, and also sought God's favour to ensure peaceful elections this year.

The programme comes barely 24 hours after the NDC endorsed President John Mahama as its flagbearer at the Congress in which he polled about 99.5 per cent of the total ballots cast.

Addressing the gathering after the prayers, Alhaji Yahaya thanked the Muslim community for their prayers and support for the government which had helped to foster peace and unity in the country.

He said the government would continue to liaise with them to realize the development objectives of the nation.

Alhaji Yahaya noted that the NDC would not forget the immense encouragement and condolences it received from Muslim well-wishers in the wake of the demise of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

This, he said, enabled the party and government to put the pieces together for the benefit of the nation.

He assured them of government's resolve to work hard to improve the living conditions and wellbeing of the people through pro-poor policies and programmes.
