Cape Coast Stadium to be built in honour of Prof. Atta-Mills

Cape Coast, Aug 17, GNA - The long-awaited Cape Coast stadium, one of the famous projects on the hearts of people in Cape Coast and central region as a whole, will soon be built in honour of the late President, Professor John Evans Atta-Mills.

The Chinese Government has approved a grant and sod will soon be cut for the commencement of the project together with the Kotokuraba Market project, which will also receive a presidential assent in due course.

Mr. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, announced this at a durbar of chiefs and people of the Central Region at the Victoria Park Cape Coast on Friday when he visited the town to express appreciation to them for fully participating in the funeral of the late President.

The large crowd at the well-attended durbar broke-out in thunderous applause and cheers to register their approval of President Mahama, thanking late Prof. Atta-Mils for his insight in selecting him as his Vice.

The jubilant crowd including, chiefs and queens, Members of Parliament, Ministers of State, departmental heads, chief executives of the various district assemblies and the general public, waved miniature Ghana flags as the President and his entourage touched the durbar grounds.

People run helter-skelter to catch a glimpse of him, some shouting “yepe no, yepe no” in Fante, meaning “we have approved him, we have approved him”.

President Mahama assured Ghanaians that his administration would ensure the completion of all uncompleted projects that was left by Prof. Atta-Mill declaring, “I will quickly sign documents on the Kotokuraba market project for work to take off”.

He said the rousing welcome he had received from the chiefs and people of the Region was an indication that they had accepted him as their son and asked for their support and cooperation.

President Mahama said Prof. Atta-Mills undertook “phenomenal” development projects across the country with every region getting its fair share and that no region could say it did not benefit from those projects and urged the people to accord him the necessary support to enable him to continue the “better Ghana Agenda”.

Daasbre Kweebu-Ewusi VII, the President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, urged politicians to desist from “unhealthy politics” to help move the nation forward in development.

Earlier, the President and his entourage visited the Kotokuraba Market and also joined worshippers at the Cape Coast Central Mosque for their Friday prayers.
