Let the nation benefit from your skills - Prof Afrane told graduates

Kumasi, Aug 17, GNA - Professor Sam Afrane, Provost of the College of Art and Social Sciences of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has asked graduates of the tertiary institutions to bring their acquired skills and expertise to bear on the nation's development.

He said they should be more creative to help transform and make things better for the population.

He was addressing the 46th congregation of the Faculty of Art and School of Business in Kumasi on Friday.

In all, 823 students graduated and were awarded with degrees.

Prof Afrane encouraged them to face the challenges and opportunities ahead of them with open-mindedness, saying he had no doubt that given the level of quality education, professional knowledge and skills acquired they would foothold in the society.

He said the Art School, one of the best in the sub-region, has been producing high calibre and seasoned artists as well as designers, capable of holding their own against their counterparts from all over the world.

The Business School, established in 2005 was making tremendous progress in business and management education.

Prof Afrane said the College although was the largest in terms of numbers and programmes, the same could not be said of its number of research and publications.

To improve the situation, they had set up a research council and fund to guide and support research within the college.

He announced plans by the Publishing Studies Department to collaborate with the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) to mount a bridge certificate programme in General Printing.
