The 13th Disciple

Propagandists in the country, it would appear, are engaged in a very serious assignment of beatifying the late President John Evans Atta Mills.
We won't be surprised if by the end of next week, the late president is credited with a certain miracle to expedite his journey towards canonisation without authorisation from Pope Benedict.
What of a story of an Atta Mills daring the Atlantic Ocean by walking on the waves not far from the Castle, proclaiming his powers and the angelic action captured on the cognitive camera of the propagandists?
Or an Atta Mills living in the stomach of a whale as Jonah did for a week? What an invincible president! A St. Mills in the making!
The enactment of his ascent to heaven and other propagandist manipulations are very serious violations of Christian standards and we are disappointed that so far, men of God have not thought it necessary to raise their voices against those pronouncements.
Observers of the uncanny developments have expressed their unreserved opprobrium in a manner enough to stop the perpetrators, had they been men of honour and those who uphold Christian ethos and values.
The late president is attributed with claiming to have finished his earthly duties and ascended to Heaven to continue a certain celestial function.
This is pure blasphemous and a creation of people so obsessed with the dirty art of propaganda that they have forgotten about the importance of decorum in managing state affairs.
This is a crop of Ghanaians who do not find anything unwieldy with attributing lies to a late president.
It is a pointer to how far we have gone with propaganda in this country. In their confused state, indeed not knowing whether President John Mahama would countenance them or not, the shaky propaganda machinery is seeking desperately to carve a new role for itself under a new political arrangement whose direction it is yet to determine.
Perhaps, that is why they have migrated from secular stuff to the celestial and, as it were, fixing angelic wings on the shoulders of the late president so he can ride on the clouds of their imagination.
As we mentioned in a previous commentary, the late President Mills needs a lot of prayers from the living, as it is with all dead persons. But to jump to the conclusion that he is already in heaven and ascribing certain attributes reserved only for Jesus Christ would be to play God.
Prince of Peace and the like are now shared by the late president with Jesus Christ, a situation which the departed former leader has no hand in.
