EXPO FEVER GRIPS GHANAIANS IN NEW YORK

Bronx, New York: Ghanaian immigrants in New York, USA, are caught in an expectant fever as the first Ghana, New York international trade and investment fair dubbed Ghana New York Expo 2012 draws near.

The multidisciplinary event scheduled for September 14 to September 18, 2012 will bring together more than three hundred Ghanaian small and medium scale companies to exhibit their wares at the City Hall Plaza, Mount Vernon, New York and will have other activities such as Durbar of Chiefs, International Musical Concert, an International Conference on Trade and a non denominational Church Service.

In an interview with Okokyeredom Acheampong Tieku, the Asantefuohene ( Ashanti Chief) of New York, the Chief indicated that " New Yorkers will witness what Ghana is all about, Beauty, Peagantry, Enterprise and a wonderful sense of community," Nana Tieku commended Mayor Ernest D. Davis of Mount Vernon for this noble initiative and encouraged Ghanaian businesses in Ghana and across the world to grab the opportunity that this platform brings with all arms.

Mr. Samuel Amoah, a Bronx based Ghanaian Entrepreneur who owns a couple of businesses in New York including the very popular Sam's Restaurant on 149 Grand Concourse in the Bronx mentioned to this reporter that, he is excited about the event because of the opportunity it presents for the formation of a Ghana New York Chamber of Commerce to synergize the business interest of all Ghanaians in New York and the USA. Mr. Amoah, who is a scheduled panelist on the International Trade Conference as part of the event, was of the view that such a front will help mobilize and promote the larger interest of Ghana in International trade. He bemoaned the lack of such an important organ and charged the organizers of the event to ensure that the Expo becomes an annual affair because of the need to showcase Ghana and Africa on regular basis to the rest of the world in a right and positive approach and mode.

M C Papa Linc, a famous Ghanaian Entertainer and a Radio Presenter at Volta Power FM in New York also expressed his eagerness in waiting as he indicated that his count down begun at the begining of the month. He summed it all with a phrase in Ghanaian pidgin English parlance" Yankee Go Know" meaning New York and America will have a feel of the Ghanaian Swag.

Ghana New York Expo 2012 is a collaboration between the City of Mount Vernon, New York, the government of the Republic of Ghana and Malaika Media Network, a Westchester County based events management company. The event is under the theme " A better Ghana, A better Destination" and captures and compliment the visison of the government of the Republic of Ghana to turn the resource rich country into a middle income nation through increased trade with the USA .
