Ho, Aug. 10, GNA - Mr Kenwuud Nuworsu, Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) observed on Thursday that the death of the late President John Evans Atta Mills has exposed the beautiful sides of politics in the country.
“The demise of our beloved President Mills has united all of us beautifully and showed that our politics can survive without insults and abuses,” he noted at a vigil in Ho in honour of the departed leader.
The event, which was preceded by a candle light procession through Town, was under the auspices of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council.
Mr Nuworsu, who was paying tribute to the late President Mills, described him as illustrious, loving, caring and humble. He said those “fine attributes” set new standards for politics in the country and urged politicians to resolve to conduct political campaigns devoid of insults in the forthcoming elections.
“Our politics cannot and must not be the same. The life and death of the good Professor has taught all of us great lessons. We must imbibe his good attributes to ensure that the country remains peaceful and united,” Mr Nuworsu said.
The Most Reverend Francis K.A. Lodonu, Catholic Bishop of Ho, in a homily said the late President Mills “stands tall in the politics of reconciliation, justice and peace.” He said the late President Mills had proved it in death that he was truly father of all, with his demise uniting the entire nation.
“In his usual and humble way, he speaks to us in deep silence -The day I shall die, I shall restore Ghanaian politics to politics of peace, of reconciliation, a politics devoid of rancor and intimidation. There will be no more declaration of vengeance on our opponents, there will be no more vindictiveness in the Ghanaian political life,” Bishop Lodonu said.
He asked the citizenry to rejoice the newness the death of the late President Mills brought into Ghanaian politics and to cultivate his “great virtues.”
Mr Henry Ford Kamel, Volta Regional Minister declared “President Mills never dies, he lives on". He said the late President Mills will always be remembered for his good virtues and legacies of development projects across the country.
Mr Kamel challenged politicians to endeavour to love one another irrespective of status and political affiliations. There were tributes from political parties, organized groups and individuals.
