Accra, Aug 8, GNA – The Funeral Planning Committee has said there would not be any road closure on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th August, which are the days set aside for the laying in state of the late President John Evans Atta Mills at the Banquet Hall of the State House.

In a statement to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, the Committee said road blocks and other elaborate vehicular control measures would be carried out only on Friday August 10th, 2012 which is the day for the funeral service at the Independence Square.

The statement, signed by Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a Deputy Minister of Information and a member of the Funeral Planning Committee, said there are no special invitation cards required for members of the public to pay their last respect to the late President on Wednesday and Thursday.

“Indeed all Ghanaians from all walks of life are free to file past the mortal remains of President Mills from 1300hours on August 8,” it said, and added that, public resumes viewing from 0600 hours on Thursday, August 9.

The statement appealed to all representatives of the National and Regional Houses of Chiefs and Queen Mothers who are scheduled to pay their last respect at 1100 hours on Thursday to converge at the VAG Guest House near the Ghana Immigration Service Headquarters to be conveyed to the Banquet Hall.

The statement said under the auspices of the Ministry of Information, a special allotment has been made for all media practitioners to pay their last respect on Thursday the August 9, between the hours of 1300 hours and 1400 hours and reminded media practitioners that no form of photography is allowed in the Banquet Hall.

It said these events are national in character and should be observed as such with the best of conduct and cooperation with security personnel and designated officials.
