Tarkwa (W/R), Aug 06, GNA - Adamu Musah, a 29-year old trader, residing at Agona Nkwanta in the Western region, has been sentenced to 2 years imprisonment by a Tarkwa Magistrate Court for stealing four bags of dried cocoa beans.
He pleaded guilty.
Prosecuting Inspector Faustina Selestina Anaman told the court presided over by Madam Juliana Millicent Ocran that the complainant is a cocoa purchasing clerk at Adaase near Atieku in the Western Region.
She said due to the rampant stealing of dried cocoa beans from various cocoa sheds in the area, the complainant opted to keep a closer watch on his shed and on October 24, last year around 2:30 am, the complaint found that the sheet light opposite the shed had been switched off.
Inspector Anaman said the complainant then tip-toed to the shed and saw four men including the convict in the shed who took to their heels when the complainant raised an alarm which attracted people to the scene.
She said in the chase, the convict and his accomplices who are now at large, entered a waiting Hyundai Grace Bus parked some few meters away from the shed and set the bus in motion but they could not increase speed due to the huge crowd.
Inspector Anaman said the crowd soon arrested the convict and deflated the tyres bus as the three accomplices escaped.
She said when the angry team inspected the bus four bags of dried cocoa beans and a long cutter which was suspected to have been used to cut the pad locks on the door were found.
Inspector Anaman said Adamu Musah was sent to the Atieku police station and a report was made.
She said the convict was sent to the hospital for treatment due to some injuries he sustained from the mob attack and after investigation he was charged with the offence whiles efforts are underway to track down the accomplices.
