MR KWESI AMISSAH ARTHUR SHOULD BE VETTED IN CAMERA

Indeed, I strongly agree with Hon. Twumasi Appiah (MP for Seni and Member of the appointment committee of parliament) who threatens to walk out from the vetting of the President nominee for the Vice President position (Mr Amissah Arthur) should his vetting be made public. As a long serving member of parliament for his constituency what are his reasons?

1). He said that, the CURRENT CHIEF JUSTICE - MAD. GEORGINA WOOD's vetting in 2007 was done in camera because the committee then considered the security implication and crucial nature of that position.

2). He also said that, the then NATIONAL SECURITY COORDINATOR under NPP govt, Mr Francis Poku was also vetted in camera due to similar reasons/concerns.

The question now is; why should the number two citizen of this land be subjected to public vetting as it was not done in the case of the chief justice and the then national security coordinator?

Was the vetting of the chief justice and the then national security coordinator Francis Poku in-camera a mistake? If no, why should people be suggesting that, Mr. Kwesi Amissah Arthur be vetted in Public? Can't the same reasons be applied to the office of the vice president?

If the claim is that, Mr. Amissah Arthur is not well known by the public, was the chief justice known at the time of her nomination by ex President Kuffuor? Same question can also be asked about Mr Francis poku at the time that he was also nominated.

In view of the evidence given, why should some few members of the appointment committee think that, they have all the wisdom and that they think better than the rest of the over 24 million Ghanaians?

The Chairman of the Appointment Committee of parliament - Hon. Doe AJaho must be firm on this matter and insist on his authority for the right thing to be done with regards to the vetting of Mr. Amissah Arthur.
