Message of Condolence from the National Peace Council

Accra, July 27, GNA - The Chairman and the entire Board of the National Peace Council (NPC) has sent a message of condolence to the bereaved family, the Nation and Government on the sudden demise of President John Evans Atta Mills.

A statement issued by the Council and signed by Mr Francis Azuimah, Acting Executive Secretary, on Friday said the NPC is greatly saddened by the passing on of the former President His Excellency John Evans Atta Mills.

It described the late President Mills as a great personality in academia, sports and politics and gave many years of dedicated service to mother Ghana.

It continued that with his quiet integrity, humility, sense of purpose and kind instincts, his human relations had no boundaries.

“He was approachable and a friend to the deprived in our society.

The statement maintained that the late President Evans Atta Mills assumed the highest office the Presidency when the nation needed a leader of such humility, a quality Ghanaians found in him.

It said although his time in office was brief and short, history will always remember him for the courage and conviction that helped him build on the trust in the workings of a nascent democracy being nurtured in Ghana.

It continued that Ghanaians would always admire the late President Mills's devotion to duty, unassuming personal character, and the systemic approach to national issues.

The statement said as the Nation mourns, “we are not a people who mourn without hope or who grieve without purpose”.

It urged Ghanaians to grasp what the late President Mills stood for; Peace, and to understand the humility so that the nation would resolve to be at peace with each other.
