Parliament extends sitting to August 16, 2012

Accra, July 27, GNA - Parliament has extended its calendar in order to enable it to discharge its constitutional obligations.

The House would thus rise on Thursday, August 16, 2012, Majority Leader and Chairman of the Business Committee of Parliament, Cletus Apul Avoka informed the House on Friday when presenting the Business Statement for the Twelfth week ending Friday, August 3, 2012.

He said the House would continue to sit on Mondays until it rises on the proposed day and may also have to extend sittings when necessary.

Several papers are expected to be presented to the House as well commencement of debates on the supplementary estimates of government for the 2012 fiscal year.

Some Bills, including the National Health Insurance Bill, the Interstate Succession Bill, 2009, the Ghana Aids Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2010, the Internal Revenue (tax Amnesty) Bill, 2011, and the Supplementary Appropriation Bill, 2012 are expected to go through the third reading for passing.
