Academic Heads urged to provide visionary leadership

Akim Oda, July 27, GNA – Heads of academic institutions have been urged to be innovative and provide visionary leadership, to offer solutions to the problems confronting their schools.

Teaching staff in the country have also been called upon to forge healthy working relationship with stakeholders, to help facilitate infrastructural and logistic advancement.

The chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the Attafuah Senior High Technical School at Akim Oda in the Birim Central Municipality, Mr. Francis Baisie Ghartey, made the call at a meeting in Akim Oda at the weekend.

The chairman urged parents to complement the efforts of teachers to promote teaching and learning in the country, and advised stakeholders to help to redeem the fallen standard of education in their jurisdiction.

Mr. Ghartey stated that the Association was poised to offer their best to move the school forward, adding it would also offer its assistance through active collaboration and sharing of ideas with the school management and the staff regularly.

He used the forum to also ask old students of the school who are well-to-do, to endeavour to strengthen the association by patronizing the school's programmes and contributing in cash and in kind.

The chairman noted that: “Though beautiful buildings do not produce fine scholars”, it created a serene environment for learning. He therefore, appealed to the government to support the school in its quest for infrastructural development.

Mr. Johnson Yeboah Gyekye, headmaster of the school, noted that the home and the school were the major places for children's character formation and discipline, and therefore, cautioned that the absence of this could create indiscipline in the society.

Mr. Gyeke pointed out that the school intake had risen from 350 students in 2009 to 1,700 students currently and that there was the need for more classrooms, dormitories and other facilities to be constructed.

The headmaster of the school expressed grateful to the PTA for supporting the school with a block for visual arts, a canteen and 18-unit classrooms, among other facilities.
