A Nation In Mourning

Ghanaians were yesterday shocked to the marrow of their bones upon the confirmation of the death of President John Evans Atta Mills, the first head of state to die in office.

An eerie eclipse has enveloped the country at this time of her history, a development which has unexpectedly cut across the political spectrum. Being an incident which affects all, political animosities have given way to a state of mourning.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag-bearer, Nana Akufo Addo, has expectedly suspended all campaign activities to join his compatriots at this painful moment in the life of the nation as his party expresses regret at the development.

The world is indeed a stage and all of us actors, each playing their part and departing to the spiritual realm, their final abode.

Every life shall have taste of death at a certain time of their sojourn on earth; this is the Almighty God's dictate.

We have read from the scriptures about how we must all lead good lives so that when we return to our Maker, we would be able to give a good account of how we managed the lives God gave us.

All too soon, the man Prof, and later President John Evan Atta Mills, has joined his ancestors in the spiritual realm, never to be seen again. This is the way of all flesh in this ephemeral world and we are pleased that the departed president played his part well and has left the stage for others to continue.

Even as we mourn his sudden departure from our midst, let us reflect upon how much we have served our Maker on earth and remember that like him, one day, we too will return to where we know little or nothing about safe what the scriptures bequeath to us in their volumes.

Here was a Ghanaian who served his nation in various capacities, products from which would undoubtedly stand up today to pay complements to their mentor, his invaluable contribution towards moulding them registered indelibly in their memories.

He led a full life and departed having paid his dues to the country to which he took an oath to serve. Ghanaians would remember him as one father of the nation who did not shy away from the rigours of local politics but stood his ground in spite of the inherent heat in the kitchen of Ghanaians politics.

Even when it was obvious that he was indisposed, he played down his condition just so he could carry on with the mandate his people had bestowed upon him.

Ghanaians would have loved him to complete his mandate but the Almighty God deemed it better to recall him. We hereby render our profound sympathy to the family he left behind and pray that God grants them the fortitude to weather the storm generated by the loss.
