The Progressives People’s Party (PPP) will make a comprehensive use of the video vans to showcase its policies and programmes for the electorates ahead of election 2012.

The video vans, it explained, would be in a form of a documented images and visuals containing the agenda, policies, programmes, capabilities and achievements of the party’s flag-bearer, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, and the activities of PPP for election 2012.

Speaking to graphic.com.gh Friday, the General Secretary of PPP, Mr Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, said the video vans would enable the party to present to the electorates, especially, those in the rural vicinity PPP’s visions and objectives for election 2012.

“Activities recorded in the video van will include its national tour, presenting the party’s candidate for election 2012 and revealing the current economic situation in Ghana which include the forgotten part of the country,’’ Mr Asamoah-Siaw said.

He noted that PPP would not be engaged in organising massive rallies to send its messages to the electorate, rather it would focus would on ensuring that “our intended policies we plan and have programmed to introduce would be outlined and presented to the people face-to-face.’’

“Although the use of traditional media plays an important role in our campaign agenda, the party will not rely sorely on it because most Ghanaians, particularly those in the remote neighbourhood, don’t have access to these facilties which would hinder the party from propelling its message to the masses,’’ he said.

According to him, PPP would not take any risk but rather visit every place in Ghana and make use of all the available avenues to get to the electorate.

Mr Asamoah-Siaw said the party would implement the agenda using the spirit of inclusiveness that would enable them use the best Ghanaians to manage the affairs of the nation.

This, he said, would include the full participation of women and the youth who he described as key contributors to push the economy to its needed development and improvement.

Mr Asamoah said PPP leadership would address issues such as unemployment, low quality of education, eliminating preventable diseases and offering Ghanaians a better governance which would impact positively in their living conditions.

Touching on its community based campaign, he said PPP aimed at using that platform to identify and trace the root cause of poverty, sickness and diseases to enable them come out with effective policies channeled at addressing the problem.

“PPP believes that the only problem that is hindering and affecting the country’s growth is ineffective leadership. How can a government in just three and half years pay close to Gh¢650 million judgement debt while it citizens are faced with numerous challenges and problems,’’ he asked.

Mr Asamoah observed that the money used to pay the judgement debt could have been channeled into the education, health, creation of employment for the people. He stressed, “this money can build many classroom buildings.”

He said the PPP led administration would ensure that all available assets at the country’s disposal were directed towards improving infrastructure and the living conditions of the people.

“Until our leaders learn to take care of their own citizens and ensure their well being, there is no true democracy, ’’ he said.

According to him, without tracing the source of problem or the root cause of poverty, hardship, sickness and diseases, it would be difficult for any political party to understand the needs of the people and gain their trust.

At the national level, Mr Asamoah-Siaw noted that the party was currently touring the country to introduce the flag-bearer and outdoor their parliamentary candidates to the electorate.

He said during the tour, various parliamentary candidates of the party would meet with voters and lay bare their plans for the constituencies and also canvass for votes.

“Every aspect of our campaign is geared at identifying problems and mapping out strategies to solving them. This is an attribute that makes a good leadership, one willing and ready to use its available resources and strength to ensure quality growth.

He said PPP’s agenda, which was built on four pillars - stewardship, education, jobs and health - would be the centre of the party’s campaign in election 2012.

Mr Asamoah-Siaw, however, gave the assurance that the PPP was working very hard to become a true national party with functional structures at the national, regional and constituency levels across the country.
