Headmistress advises students against deviant behaviour

Sunyani, July 19, GNA - Madam Georgina Boakye, Head mistress of Sunyani Secondary School (SUSEC), has advised students to concentrate on their education to groom a better future.

She expressed worry at how students escaped from campus to attend social functions such as cinema, night clubs, video game centres and indulged in illicit and indiscriminate sexual activities.

Madam Boakye, who is the Vice Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools, noted that the practice is most common with senior high school students.

Speaking in an interview with Ghana News Agency on Thursday she stressed that such acts by students “do not encourage effective and excellent teaching and learning”.

She observed that the students expose themselves to danger, especially sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies, which could resort in school drop outs and living on the streets.

Madam Boakye cautioned students to take cognisance of the fact that their aim in school is to learn and acquire the requisite knowledge and skills to better their future and not to engage in social vices.

She advised the students to be disciplined and to eschew practices that could mar their academic performance and hinder their progress.

The headmistress called on parents and custodians to inculcate discipline in their wards.

“Education is the pivot of development and all seriousness should be attached to it if one wants to make it in life,” she added.
