Akrokerri (ASH), July 19, GNA- The Adansi North District Director of Education, has noted that teachers have been entrusted with the education and training of the future leaders of the nation and should therefore develop the competence to do so.
Mr Charles Assuah therefore tasked them to develop themselves academically and professionally to be able to accomplish the task.
Mr Assuah made the observation when he addressed the final year students of Akrokerri College of Education at a day's induction course held at Akrokerri in the Ashanti Region.
He advised the students to pursue further their education beyond the college in order to become accomplished professionals and academicians.
Leading a discussion on “Further education and teacher development”, the District Director noted that a teacher who availed himself of further education progressed faster in life.
Mr C.D.K. Dorgbetor, Bekwai Municipal Director of Education suggested the need for teacher trainees to do their out- segment programme in rural communities to motivate them to accept postings to deprived areas.
He said such a practice would offer at least a year's good tuition to rural children.
The Municipal Director said the greater part of the country is under-developed whilst the policy of Ghana Education Service is to ensure that teacher trainees are sent to deprived areas after graduation to help the children to have access to quality education.
Speaking on the topic: “Teacher motivation and Incentives,” Mr Dorgbetor told the trainees “there are many motivations and incentives in the system which can ginger you to do a lot of good work.”
Mr Emmanuel K Asiedu, Principal of the College urged the students to be role models in the communities they would be posted to.
The teacher trainees were treated to topics like in-service training for teachers, challenges face by newly trained teachers and what is expected of newly trained teachers within first two weeks of posting.
