Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah, says the return of striker Asamoah Gyan is a welcome news and a big boost for the national team as they plan to put Ghana's World Cup qualification back on track after the team’s loss to Zambia.

Gyan’s decision to end his international hiatus last Wednesday was music to the ears of the coach who had missed Ghana’s leading striker since taking charge of the national team.

“The decision to return is good for the team and for Ghana.”

“Management and the technical team are yet to discuss the issue, but I think that Gyan’s decision to return is indeed welcome news for the team,”Appiah told the Graphic Sports.

After months of meeting and several discussions with the striker, the Al Ain arrow head ended his hiatus with the Stars and made himself available for selection by writing to the GFA last Wednesday to express his availability for future international assignments.

“After several discussions, Gyan showed willingness to return and I’m happy he’s done that sooner than later,” added Coach Appiah who hopes to field the striker in September for Ghana’s clash against Malawi in the final qualifier for the 2013 Nations Cup.

A relieved Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, believes the striker’s timely return will boost Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the Nations Cup and the World Cup.

“The GFA is happy that Gyan has listened to good counsel and decided to return to play for the Stars at a time when he’s also taking another major step in his career with the new deal with Al Ain.

“Of course, everyone knows what Gyan brings to the Stars and so we are happy that he’s taken that step,' Mr Nyantakyi said.
