Police at Sofoline in Kumasi say they suspect foul play as they begin investigations into the death of a 12-year-old boy whose body was found in a pool of water at the ongoing Sofoline interchange project site.

Initial reports suggested it was another case of drowning in a pit at the construction site where three children died in May.

However, according to the police, evidence of cutlass wounds on the body of the unidentified boy gave them cause to believe he might have been killed and his body dumped there.

Crime Officer at the Sofoline Police station, ASP George Nkwantabisa told, Joy FM that the spot where the body was found was also different from where bodies of the three children were found in May after a heavy downpour.

He noted that the trench was not deep enough for somebody to drown in it.

According to him, post mortem was yet to be conducted on the deceased, insisting that the police would rather remain quiet until investigations had been concluded.

The body of the boy was recovered by the police from a dug-out trench at the Sofoline Interchange project site on Thursday by plumbers working in the area.

This incident follows a similar disaster that occurred at the project site four months ago, which involved three boys who had gone there to play football.

In the latest incident, the boy, believed to be between the ages of 11 and 15, was found in a trench, which was full of water .

Plumbing workers of   China Geo Engineering Corporation discovered the body around 8:00am on Thursday while trying to draw out water from a trench they had worked in the previous day, a worker told  DAILY GUIDE .

He said it remained a mystery how the body ended up in the trench. They wondered whether the unidentified boy accidentally fell into the trench and died subsequently, or was killed somewhere and later dumped into the pit because warning signs had been put in place to ward-off pedestrians.

The body, which had deep cut at the chin and cheek, has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue, awaiting police investigation.
